BIG SURF

We have just short of half a day to go find the big surf
we are just down the road from the light house
So first the Kilauea Lighthouse and wildlife refuse.

If you don't click on these photos to make them bigger
You will really miss out!

It gets better the closer we get
to the light house.

Here is that goose that is so protected

we take turns with photos
I take his he takes mine

The warm rain does strange things to my hair.

Okay..... time for BIG WAVES

up the coast for some more big surf hunting

parked along the road and hiked in a dark forest to this view
the waves were just below us and wow their power
was unsettling.

The drive around this side of the island has been
amazing.  The road ends at a beach so off we go
we hear there are a lot of one way bridges and
some construction. hum

We collected sand here for Georgia

A lot of nice big waves here

One last stop and we have to head back

The end of the road at last.
Parking was difficult
impossible?
Not to Phil we parked in the worse patch of dirt
I've ever seen.  Broken window glass all over.
That means cars get broken into all the time.
I carried all my valuables.  And they
were HEAVY.  It was a long walk too.

We walked past some taro fields.
Alicia told me how they are grown
different ways.  Now I've seen it.

The end of the road is like stepping into another time.

Kee beach
The end of the road

Bleach boy things this looks good enough to get his feet
wet. I think it's just the last chance, last beach thing!

Nice big waves

There were red flags everywhere
no one was getting in this big surf.
Too much wind makes for lots of chop.

So did anyone tell you NEVER to turn your back on a wave?
Bleach boy forgot this rule and was laughing at me with all
my camera equipment on my shoulder playing in the water.
WHEN
SPLASH
He got soaked from the waist down.

Someone told us the original South Pacific was filmed here.

yes the heavy camera purse
The couple who took this photo was up on the
hill in the shade.  Not the best photo.

There were wild red jungle fowl
(my tour book tells me that is what they are)
all over the island but here is where I choose to
finally take a photo

For most of the water photos I was standing in the ocean.
I was in shorts I didn't get wet like bleach boy

 I'm standing in this
 lovely water
and it's warm......

Now for the walk back to the car and see if we have any windows left.

We have to hurry and get back for
The Smith family Luau
which we really loved!

So how do the goats keep from getting hit by the coconuts?

The Islands are supported in great
part by the tourist
but DO not try to get anywhere
 on Friday late afternoon/evening

The airport dumps all those weekenders
right into
the hotel strip
it took over an hour to move 3 miles

We dashed to our room way way in the
 back of the resort
I changed clothes and put on some perfume
RAN
to the front to catch
The Smith family shuttle.
We barely made it and Phil had to go in
his soaking wet
jeans.

At least we didn't have to tip a valet to get our car.
This was boarding on ridiculous as often as we
came and went.
