The Smith Family luau

Not sure what a luau is used to celebrate

But now it is used to share the local culture
with the visitors.

We had a wonderful time
The Smith family has kept beautiful gardens
and lots of tropical fruits growing also.
enjoy the evening via my photos.

That's our dinner under that dirt pile.
The master of ceremony was GREAT.
I thoroughly enjoyed his narration during
the evening.

Dinners ready!

This beautiful tree is Kooaburra's favorite tree.

Yes it's the old gum tree.

This is the dinning hall.
Everything had a roof and with sudden
rains we were glad.

The location is pure heaven on earth what a place to enjoy dinner!

The food was so varied and everything was good.
 Amazing for such a
large gathering.

The Smith family does everything.
I spoke with the mother and grandmother
They cook all the food even the rice pudding!

Now out to the stage by the lake for
an amazing evening of music and dance.
Phil who doesn't care for such things
Loved the evening.  Despite
the rain it was warm all evening .

The pictures aren't good, so just imagine how
lovely our evening was.

Off to the bus to head back to our resort.
Tomorrow we will greet the sun
and fly to Oahu
lay over for 4 hours
and fly home for 9 hours.

Flying home, can't we stay another week please?

All week we have been on Phil's work schedule
with one exception...I am not an early morning person
So he has done paper work and taken a few sunrise
walks while I slowly got myself in gear.

On the last morning I struggle but joined
him for the sunrise right outside our room
on the beach.

Is Phil getting more sand for Georgia?

It was wanting to rain and the clouds were heavy
but after the long wait the sun does come up!

This is our resort.
Sometimes the best part of a sunrise is behind you.
I'll keep checking and see what happens.
not much so far

There is a sunrise under there...hum

Oh it's getting better behind me....
Guess I should look forward again
Half asleep here

WOW

There must have been 20 people on the beach....less
as they got tired of waiting.
too bad for them

It's time to catch a nice Hawaiian airline flight
More of those tasty juice cups.

A 4 hours wait, I nearly finished a book!

Then a nice short visit with my niece Alicia
She brought those
 famous Hawaiian donuts (malasada
I missed out on!
What a sweetie she is!
Hugs for everyone
and home we go!

No officer of the Agriculture dept
I don't have any smuggled plants in
my suitcase!
 Oh you want to
X-ray it?

OK
Two must be the charm.

Dad's Spring projects

There was a time limit to this latest project.

Winter had it's braking points this year and my beautiful pole
gate pass through collapsed with the heavy snow.

The one really good thing is we did get all the barns shoveled
off before the heavy rain so nothing else fell to the weather......
Wait I'm wrong there was an early spring wind storm that twisted two giant
trees in the pasture and brought them right down!
 Another strike for Mother Nature

Spring has been nicer and bleach boy got the trellis up
minutes before the clematis bloomed.
He had to struggle, his shoulder is giving him so much trouble.

 I think he needs some

 applause
for this Giant effort to redo my loved pathway.

Being unemployed always invites new projects for Phil
so now I will have a nice walk through into the South garden.
Every day a few more poles set.

Here it is a work in progress

The fresh wood frame is just supporting the new poles
until bleach boy gets the cement mixed and in the holes.

The width of the walk through is between those two pole.
There will be a fun gate that will take
me in and out of the South garden.

I'm just delighted!

There will be an herb pot shelve
that will run along the fence from the
house to the gate.
The herbs have always loved that bit of sun
that hits at the corner of the house.

Luckily we will only have to move these heavy pots a couple of feet!
See the corner of the house? That is where the shelf will begin.

Now for the fun part of my walk outside.
I found an inexpensive green house at Fred Myer a few months back
When I finished putting it up I added a cat bed to one of the shelves.
I knew Midas could not resist so I might as well give him a bed
so he didn't lay on the plants.

I peeked in and as I snapped his photo he jumped out of his bed.
Crazy cat.

You can see the orange cat in down by the tomatoes.
